Heléna Herklots CBE, Older People's Commissioner for Wales
Heléna took up post as Older People’s Commissioner for Wales following over 30 years’ working in a wide range of third sector roles covering service development and provision, policy, campaigning and strategy. Her career began working directly with older people at care homes and day centres.
Prior to her appointment as Commissioner, Heléna was Chief Executive of Carers UK, the national membership charity for the UK’s 6.5 million carers, a role she held from 2012 onwards.
Before 2012, Heléna worked as Services Director for Age UK, with responsibility for their charitable services for older people and for supporting local Age UK organisations. She also worked as Head of Policy for Age Concern England and as Corporate Strategy Manager for Anchor Trust.
Heléna has led and contributed to a number of UK Government advisory groups, covering topics including care and support, housing, dementia and carers. She also spent a year on secondment working on older people’s issues at the Department of Health.
In addition, Heléna is a Trustee of the Centre for Ageing Better and a Fellow of the RSA.
